Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 22, 2026
Welcome to Animant!
This Privacy Policy is intended to inform you about the collection, use, and protection of your data when using the Animant app available on the Apple App Store for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, visionOS, and watchOS, as well as our website. We value your privacy and strive to be transparent in how we handle your information. By using Animant, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Data Controller
The data controller responsible for your data is:
Animant LabsPO Box 8544
Gold Coast MC, QLD 9726
Australia
Email: [email protected]
Animant makes use of the following subprocessors to provide our services:
- Apple Inc. (Apple App Store for app distribution, iCloud for optional data storage, and Private Cloud Compute for Magic Chapter AI processing) — Apple's Privacy Policy
- Cloudflare, Inc. (Content delivery network) — Cloudflare's Privacy Policy
- RevenueCat (Subscription management) — RevenueCat's Privacy Policy
- Supabase, Inc. (Featured asset downloads) — Supabase's Privacy Policy
2. Legal Bases for Processing
Under GDPR, we only process your personal data when we have a lawful basis to do so. The lawful bases we rely on are:
- Consent — where you opt in to AI features or submit crash logs.
- Legitimate interests — to maintain app security, prevent fraud, and improve our services.
- Legal obligation — to comply with applicable tax, accounting, or regulatory requirements.
3. Data Collection and Usage
3.1 Personal Information
By default, Animant does not collect personally identifiable information (PII). Third-party SDKs may collect aggregated device identifiers for diagnostics. Purchase receipts and subscription data may be collected and linked to an anonymous identifier for fraud prevention.
3.2 Story and Asset Data
Animant does not collect or store story or media data (documents, videos, images, audio) on our servers. All media remains stored locally on your device unless you choose to use iCloud. When you use Magic Chapter, input files may be sent to Apple's Private Cloud Compute for processing — see Section 3.4.
3.3 iCloud Storage
If you store projects in iCloud, data is handled in accordance with Apple's Privacy Policy.
3.4 Magic Chapter AI
Magic Chapter uses Apple's Private Cloud Compute (PCC) to process input documents, including PDF, audio, video, and image files. When PCC is used, your files are sent to Apple's secure cloud infrastructure for AI analysis. Apple designed PCC so that processing is performed without retaining your data or making it accessible to Apple or third parties. Processing via PCC is subject to your Apple account's PCC allowance. For more information, see Apple's Privacy Notice for Apple Intelligence and Private Cloud Compute.
After you have used your PCC allowance, Magic Chapter falls back to on-device processing. In that case, your documents are processed locally on your device and are not sent to Apple's cloud infrastructure. Animant does not receive or store the contents of documents processed by Magic Chapter, whether on PCC or on-device.
4. Website Data
4.1 Aggregated Data
We may receive anonymized analytics from Apple (e.g., device type, region, purchase counts) to improve services.
4.2 Crash Logs
If you consent to share crash logs, anonymized technical data is submitted to Apple and made available to us for debugging.
5. Website Data
Our website collects aggregated country and device type data (no identifiable IP storage). We use cookies from Cloudflare on our website for essential site delivery functions, security, and performance monitoring.
6. International Data Transfers (GDPR only)

7. Data Retention
- Purchase data is retained as required by law for accounting purposes.
- Crash logs are retained only as long as necessary for troubleshooting or service improvement.
- You may request deletion of personal data associated with you at any time (see Section 9).
8. Information Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. While we strive to safeguard your information, no system is fully secure.
